The Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) and the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia signed today a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the collaboration in the field of official statistics.

SESRIC publishes the report on 'Achieving Peace and Security in a World of Turmoil: An Arduous Challenge for the OIC'

After a yearlong research study that was conducted in close collaboration with the Peace, Security and Conflict Resolution Unit at the OIC, the SESRIC has published the outputs of this research study in a report titled “Achieving peace and security in a world of turmoil: An Arduous Challenge for the OIC.” The report probes the required ingredients for conflict prevention and management in OIC countries, enhancing the OIC peace and security architecture, developing institutional mechanisms for sustainable peace and security in OIC countries, and exploring alternative paths for achieving sustainable peace.

SESRIC draws attention to the situation of street working and street living children in OIC countries with its new report

SESRIC has recently launched a new outlook report titled “Situational Analysis of Street Living Children and Street Working Children in OIC Countries”. The report highlights the root causes leading children to the street and the risks children face while living or working on the street. Amongst these causes are poverty, conflict, cultural norms and attitudes, restricted access to education and family factors. While on the streets, children face numerous risks including sexual abuse, violence and exploitation, drug use and health risks.

Global Muslim Diaspora Project publishes its findings on Muslim communities living in non-OIC Countries

SESRIC has published the findings of its “Global Muslim Diaspora Report”, the first comprehensive study of Muslim communities living in the non-OIC countries, aiming to analyze challenges, experiences and perceptions on a range of issues related to Muslim communities living in non-OIC countries.

SESRIC hosted the 3rd Global Meeting of the Expert Group on Refugee and IDP Statistics and 10th Regional Workshop of MED-HIMS

SESRIC hosted the Third Global Meeting of the Expert Group on Refugee and Internally Displaced Persons Statistics (EGRIS) at its Headquarters in Ankara, Turkey between 12 and 14 February 2019. Eighty-one officials from EGRIS members, including representatives of national statistical offices and other relevant governmental bodies from 19 OIC member countries, along with experts from 15 non-OIC countries, and 17 different regional and international organisations attended the meeting. A meeting on Stateless Persons Statistics was also hosted on 15 February 2019 as well as the 10th Regional Workshop on the Experiences and Tools under MED-HIMS (Households International Migration Surveys in the Mediterranean countries - a programme initiated by European Union) took place between 14 and 16 February 2019 at SESRIC Headquarters.
